We recently received some information from the Halbert and Nancy Robinson Center for Young Scholars at the University of Washington that some of our families may be interested in reading.  The Robinson Center is a pioneer and an international leader in recognizing and serving the needs of gifted young pre-college and college students.  There are three programs in particular they wanted us to share with you.

SUMMER PROGRAMS – SUMMER CHALLENGE (5TH-6TH GRADE) AND SUMMER STRETCH (7TH-10TH GRADE)

Summer programs for highly capable students (students qualify via the WASL for Challenge and via the SAT or ACT for Stretch) that provide an intense, academic, fast-paced learning experience and a peer group. Last summer we had over 400 students and are continuing to expand.

TRANSITION SCHOOL/EARLY ENTRANCE

A special program where qualified students attend a “college prep” Transition School on the UW campus for one year before entering the UW as full-fledged undergraduates. Most students enter the program after completing 8th grade. We accept 17 students a year. This program, which has been in existence for over 30 years at the UW, is ideal for students who
are intellectually ambitious, self-motivated, bored in their current learning environment, and who seek a supportive peer group.

UW ACADEMY

This program is an ‘early entrance’ program as well into the UW (via the Honors Program) but students enter after completing 10th grade. There is a “bridge” program and other programming to help them adjust to the expectations of the UW. We accept 35 students a year in this program.
