This fantastic news has just been received from the District:
We are happy to announce that 7th-grade PAGE will continue to be an option for highly capable students in our district.
In an effort to provide a continuum of services for the highly capable students served in the Puyallup School District, we will continue to offer two programs at the junior high level.
Honors – Honors courses are offered at each junior high school and registration for class is open to all students. The junior high Honors program includes Honors English/Social Studies (interdisciplinary classes) and Honors Mathematics. The Honors program is for ambitious learners and those highly capable learners wishing to attend their neighborhood school. The Honors program will provide rigor and complexity beyond what is expected in the regular classroom. These courses will be distinguished with their own course syllabus and curriculum map and emphasize higher level thinking skills.
PAGE – This program is offered for highly capable seventh, eighth and ninth-grade students who have been recommended by members of the PSD Central Screening Committee. The Puyallup Accelerated Gifted Education Program includes courses with a higher level of rigor, depth, breadth and acceleration than what is possible in the junior high Honors program in the following core subjects: Language Arts/Social Studies, and Mathematics. Resources used will include materials specially designed for highly capable students.
The District is currently preparing letters to each current 6th-grade QUEST family, and brochures for each 6th-grader in the district about this exciting change.
ABC will continue to share news about this development as more information is received.

I was very happy to receive this information. There are so many programs being cut next year. I commend the efforts that ABC has taken to ensure that our families have a voice regarding the need for gifted programs.
